Hip abduction on footplate - Reformer - Exercise sheet

  1. Standing on the reformer, one foot on the footplate, one on the edge of the carriage

2.  With only a slight bend in the knees, push the carriage out with the legs, up to shoulder width apart

 

(This distance is important to reduce the chances of impingement in the hips and irritation of the gluteus medius/minimus tendon)

3. Bend both knees down as far as you can, without

 

  • Letting the knees fall inwards (make sure they stay in line with the feet and hips)

 

  • Leaning forward more than just a little bit (so that you keep your back straight)
